My Story

Hi all, This is my story,

In June 2016 after finishing breast feeding my second child I discovered a 9cm lump in my left breast. This lump turned out to be cancer, scans found a further smaller lump in my right breast and a micro cancer on my thyroid. I made the decision to have a bilateral mastectomy and hemi-thyroidectomy, 6 rounds of chemo, 3 weeks of daily radiotherapy and 5 operations later I have made it to where I am today. I completed  my endocrine therapy in April 2022 and I finally can put a line under this part of my life! This year I celebrate being a cancer survivor, I am indebted to the amazing care and treatment that I received from the RD&E, they blew me away with their kindness, patience and compassion! I owe my life to them, I am able to be a mother to my 2 beautiful children and work in a job I love that supported me through my treatment. I work as a Community Specialist Nurse in Exmouth, employed by the RD&E. I saw that the RD&E Charity was arranging a wing walk to celebrate the NHS birthday so I thought it would be a great way to show my appreciation and to tick a crazy thing off my bucket list! Can you help me raise vital funds for the RD&E charity? Your donations are hugely appreciated. I know times are hard for everyone but every pound will help.

Many thanks Gill xx
